Full Name: Matthew Henry Murdock
Alias: Daredevil, “The Man Without Fear”
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Member Group: hero
Occupation: student
Canon or OC: comic canon
Height: 5’9
Weight: 170 lbs.
Play by: Paul Wesley (Ben Affleck for the costume)
Physical Description: Matt has close-cut blonde hair and blue eyes- though the later are usually hidden behind a pair of sunglasses. He is lean but well-muscled. He carries a red and white cane with him to help him navigate, though it’s actually unnecessary because of his powers. He tends to wear dress shirts and jeans, but will trade the jeans for slacks when he wants to make an impression. His Daredevil outfit consists of a red horned mask which covers his blind eyes, a red leather jacket with “DD” emblazoned on it, and red leather pants.
Personality: Matt comes off as a calm and quiet guy. He seems harmless- hardly the type of person you would expect to be a costumed vigilante. He’s also very serious. When Matt tells a joke, people are often caught off-guard or think he’s being serious. It doesn’t help that he has a good poker face.
Matt is not emotionless, however. When something truly makes Matt angry, he will show it. And, though he may hope to be a lawyer, Matt’s face will never show anything but honest emotion. He is no actor. Matt cherishes his ideals more deeply than anything else, and is determined to establish himself as a lawyer not for money but as a way to help the common man.
Despite being blind, it has been years since Matt has been bitter about his disability. While his remaining senses don’t completely compensate for his loss of sight- he still can’t watch TV or play a game of cards- Matt has chosen to focus on the bright side- his remaining senses show him wonders no other man can be privy to. When people pity Matt for his disability, he is more amused than angry.
Powers: Enhanced Senses: Although Daredevil is blind, all of his other senses are heightened to a superhuman level. He can hear heartbeats. He can smell the gunpowder from a gun pointed at him or track an individual like a bloodhound. He can even detect “tasteless” substances added to his food or drink. He can feel slight differences in heat on a surface.
Radar sense: a side effect of Daredevil’ heightened hearing is that he can “see” by focusing on how sounds rebound off of solid objects, much the same way that bats or whales use echolocation.
Heightened balance: Daredevil’s inner ear is extremely well developed due to his heightened sense of hearing. As a result, he is capable of superhuman feats of agility and balance.
Weaknesses:Because Daredevil’s senses are so extremely sensitive that at times it can hinder him more than help him. Loud noises, though generally tolerable to him, are more painful than to the average person. Sufficiently loud noise, especially over a period of time, causes his ears to bleed, his balance to be affected, and disrupts his radar sense. Strong smells make Daredevil violently ill, and a myriad of strong smells can disrupt his ability to track by scent. Because of his heightened sense of touch, he feels more pain than most people when injured.
History:
Matthew Murdock wanted to be just like his dad, Jack Murdock. A professional boxer. Throughtout much of his childhood, Matt’s father was his hero. However, Jack refused to teach his son to fight and instead emphasized studying, wanting his son to become a more educated man then himself.
At the age of eleven, Matt was out skateboarding when a barrel of toxic waste fell off a truck and crashed into him. The container was not only improperly secured, it was shoddily designed as well. The waste flew into young Matt’s eyes, blinding him.
Every doctor Matt went to gave him the same verdict: his vision was gone, permanently. His parents remained supportive as they could, trying to adjust to their son’s new disability. Matt himself grew frustrated by his blindness, and his overdeveloped remaining senses confused and overwhelmed him. Often he would become nauseous from even moderate loud noises.
However, it wasn’t long before tragedy again struck the Murdock family. Matt’s father was killed by gangsters after refusing to throw a fight. The young Matt Murdock, still not even out of high school, began contemplating suicide. How could his life get any worse?
However, the self-pitying Matt Murdock was found by a strange man by the name of “Stick” at the age of fourteen. It was Stick who taught Matt not only how to conquer his disability but how to fight as well. Stick was impressed when he realized that Matt’s remaining senses were far more acute than humanly possible. A former member of the Hand who had faked his death so he could retire, Stick developed ways to teach Matt Murdock how to utilize his senses to their fullest. He also gave Matt lessons in martial arts to strengthen Matt’s mental focus, discipline, and body.
Stick never spoke of his past, leaving Matt Murdock in mystery. However, the old man did want to speak of Matt’s future, forcing him to set goals and find reasons to continue to live. Matt told Stick he wanted to be a champion for justice. He wanted to find the people who were responsible for his blindness and his father’s murderers. Stick, perhaps sensing his protégé’s intent, advised him to become a lawyer. He supplied the young man with Braille books on law. A frustrated Matt replied that it wasn’t enough- the law had failed him twice in his life already. Stick chastised the young man for his impatience. However, he suspected that Matt would pursue vengeance with or without his help, so he agreed to help train the boy for the task, in the hopes that Matt might live just a bit longer. In return for the training, Stick made Matt promise him three things: (1)that he would only fight for justice, (2)he would never take a human life, and (3)that he would continue to pursue legal means to fight for justice whenever possible. Matt reluctantly agreed, and Stick began a more intensive training routine for Matt.
At the age of seventeen, Stick told Matt that he had taught him everything he could. Matt was on his own. Daredevil was born. In honor of his father’s and Stick’s wishes, however, Matt continued his education while fighting crime, and he continues to fight crime to this day while studying law at New York University. His hope is to fight crime not only in the streets but in the courtroom.

Daredevil. The Man Without Fear, they had dubbed him. He smiled at that as he somersaulted from one rooftop to another. He supposed anyone who dared stand up to the criminal element in the aptly named “Hell’s Kitchen” would have to be fearless- at least in the eyes of the casual observer. Or possibly insane.
Matthew Murdock considered himself neither fearless nor insane. He was simply passionate about his ideals. He knew, every night that he went on patrol, that he might be killed. He had made his peace with that- he simply hoped he did not die before he uncovered his father’s murderer.
Of course, Stick had constantly reminded him that nothing he did would ever bring his father back. He had also said that nothing he did would bring him closure, not even killing the man responsible. From the sadness in his voice, Matt suspected Stick had found that out the hard way. As always, however, he had respected his master’s privacy and refused to pry into the matter.
